Capacitance is the ability of a component, such as a capacitor, to store electrical energy within an electric field. It represents the quantity of electric charge stored relative to a given electric potential (voltage).

Capacitance (C) is defined as the ratio of stored charge (Q) to the applied voltage (V), measured in farads (F). This relationship is expressed by the formula: Q = CV.

Capacitance is also the operating principle behind capacitive touch panels. These devices function by detecting changes in capacitance across an electrode grid. When a conductive object, such as a finger, touches the screen, it alters the local capacitance. The system detects this variation to identify the precise location of the touch.
